The Transatlantic Big Science Conference 2027

A forum for productive, thoughtful, and candid conversations about the urgent need to empower research collaborations across national boundaries.

The Transatlantic Big Science Conference aspires to create opportunities to renew and reinvigorate historic collaborations between scientists and organizations on both sides of the Atlantic and to empower transnational research communities to pursue transformational, sustainable solutions to global grand challenges.

About The Transatlantic Big Science Conferences

The inaugural conference was held in Washington DC in 2022. The program, jointly organized by Carnegie Science and DESY (Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron), brought together international scientific leaders, researchers and policymakers working across disciplines. The conference highlighted a wide range of exciting new research and led to important conversations on how scientists on both sides of the Atlantic can collaborate most productively.

A second conference was held in Berlin in 2024 to move these conversations forward and to find effective and innovative ways to build lasting connections between researchers on both sides of the Atlantic and to serve as a vital bridge for international scientific cooperation.

Looking ahead, we are pleased to announce that a third conference is being prepared for April 2027 in Ottawa, Canada. This upcoming summit aims to fortify the transatlantic big science and innovation alliance during an era of global uncertainty. By reaffirming our shared values of resilience, openness, and trust, the TTBSC 2027 will underscore our collective commitment to global responsibility in the pursuit of scientific excellence.
